A16z Partner Olivia Moore: Consumer AI has huge opportunities, needs to explore revenue streams beyond subscriptions
Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) partner Olivia Moore released a report on the top 100 consumer AI apps, noting that while ChatGPT remains the largest player, smaller apps like Suno and ElevenLabs show strong staying power. Moore believes there's a significant opportunity in consumer AI, especially if the industry can find revenue models beyond just subscriptions and API charges, suggesting consumers might prefer free access with ads. She also highlighted that half a dozen consumer categories, including social, dating, marketplaces, retail, travel, finance, and health, remain largely untouched by AI, indicating early days for the sector. Moore views OpenAI's shift towards enterprise as an expansion rather than a full pivot.
