According to CNBC, tanker attacks in the Strait of Hormuz have surged to wartime highs as Iran attempts to stifle a rebound in crude oil exports. In the week ending October 4, a total of 11 tankers were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, the highest number of commercial vessel attacks in a single week since the war began in late February. This week saw an additional 5 tanker attacks, including one on Friday where a tanker named Gem No. 2 was hit by a projectile and caught fire near the coast of the UAE.
