Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on Saturday called for advanced AI systems to have containment, independent control, and "emergency brake" functions, allowing authorized personnel to pause or shut down models during task execution. He also proposed that AI systems should be designed around "observability principles," including model diversity, human-readable operational footprints, continuous system testing, independent control and auditability, containment, and incident disclosure. Nadella's comments come as tech executives and researchers, including Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, have warned about insufficient AI safety protocols and the rapid pace of technological development.
