XRP Ledger Foundation addresses critical bug that could have minted trillions of XRP
The XRP Ledger Foundation has addressed a critical vulnerability, present since 2015 and recently uncovered by Veria Labs, that could have allowed malicious actors to mint up to 18.45 trillion XRP, bypassing the fixed supply cap. The foundation confirmed that no unauthorized XRP was minted and that the exploit was never seen on the public network. They also defended their decision to circumvent the standard amendment process for an immediate software update, which was coordinated with RippleX, core developers, and validators, with patched software released on September 25.
