IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva: AI infrastructure investment drives global economic growth, expected to significantly boost growth rates in Asian economies.
According to RTHK's instant financial news, Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stated on Monday that strong investment in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure is sustaining global economic growth at around 3% and bringing significant benefits to many Asian economies that provide hardware, such as Thailand. She noted that the AI investment boom has led to a "demand shock and investment shock," which is expected to boost growth rates in developed Asian economies by 0.5 to 1 percentage point, and in emerging Asian economies by 0.2 to 0.8 percentage points. The IMF estimates that AI could ultimately lead to 40% of jobs being augmented, degraded, or eliminated, and has already found that 10% of jobs in the United States require AI skills.
