Huawei-backed Chinese luxury EV brand Maextro's V800 model was found to have a brake pedal malfunction during testing. In an emergency braking test video released Thursday by Dongchedi, an automotive information platform owned by ByteDance, the brake pedal brackets of three Maextro V800 vehicles all fractured. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), along with three other ministries, released draft new vehicle testing rules on Saturday, requiring new models to complete 30,000 kilometers of road testing and other sufficient tests before market launch. The Maextro brand stated on Sunday that it would resolve the brake pedal issue by the end of this month. This incident has raised consumer concerns about the quality of Chinese electric vehicles, with People's Daily commentary emphasizing strengthened regulation. Previously, Xiaomi's EV also had a fatal accident in March 2025, drawing attention to autonomous driving technology.
