Cuba's Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, stated on Monday that the Cuban government was not involved in the 90 shipments of biodiesel fuel, valued at $2.8 million, that were intercepted by the United States on October 7. He added that the volume of oil shipped by the U.S. to Cuban private companies is far from meeting the country's needs, covering less than 3% of its fuel demand. Facing a de facto oil blockade by the U.S., Cuba is advancing its renewable energy program, having installed 144 solar farms with a total capacity of approximately 1418 megawatts.
