The People's Bank of China (PBOC) announced last week that its gold reserves increased by 740,000 troy ounces (approximately 23 tons) in September, bringing total holdings to 77.47 million ounces. This move capitalized on falling gold prices to further reduce exposure to dollar-denominated assets amidst tensions with Washington. As of the end of September, China's gold reserves were valued at approximately $324 billion at market prices, while its foreign exchange reserves stood at $3.4 trillion.
