El Niño continues to strengthen, with several key indicators reaching record highs and expected to peak in December, the BBC reported. The latest data from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) shows that the average weekly sea surface temperature in the central Pacific has reached its highest level ever. Previously, scientists announced in September that the daily sea surface temperature in the central and eastern Pacific set a new record, surpassing that of the strong El Niño event in 2015. Scientists state that against the backdrop of human-induced climate warming, this year's El Niño event is setting new ocean temperature records and could make 2026 one of the warmest years on record.
