HKEX completes pilot schemes for cross-border Green Electricity Certificate trading with mainland China exchanges
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) has completed the first cross-border trading of Green Electricity Certificates (GECs) under two pilot programmes with mainland exchanges in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The HKEX's Core Climate platform enabled 15 companies, including Airport Authority and Bank of China (Hong Kong), to purchase GECs through the Guangzhou Power Exchange Centre. This marks the first time GECs, which represent one megawatt-hour of renewable electricity, have been added to the Core Climate platform since its 2022 launch for carbon credits.
