Science Corporation has implanted a vision-restoring chip into a patient with Stargardt disease for the first time.
Science Corporation CEO Max Hodak, co-founder and former president of Neuralink, announced at TechCrunch Disrupt that the company has successfully implanted its PRIMA chip, designed to restore vision, into a patient with Stargardt disease for the first time, TechCrunch reported. The patient underwent the implant procedure in May at Sydney Eye Hospital in Australia and has since successfully seen letters and words during rehabilitation training. Science Corporation stated that this work is part of its broader goal to achieve new types of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). The PRIMA chip is currently commercialized in Europe for treating vision loss in patients with advanced age-related macular degeneration.
