YouTube Music announced on Wednesday a new labeling system aimed at increasing transparency for AI-generated music. These labels will appear on the player page and extend to the main YouTube app, identifying songs that are entirely AI-generated or partially created with AI involvement (such as composition and vocals). YouTube stated that this move is the result of collaboration with music partners and the deployment of its own detection tools, allowing partners to declare the use of AI in their works through three labels: "fully AI-generated," "partially AI-generated," or "not AI-generated." This initiative comes as AI-generated music rapidly gains popularity on streaming services, with other platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, and TIDAL having taken or planning similar measures. However, YouTube focuses more on disclosure rather than comprehensive restrictions, and AI involvement will not affect a song's monetization eligibility.
