Ethereum's EIP-8061 proposal will accelerate exits, but new validators still need to queue for rewards.
Ethereum's EIP-8061 proposal aims to accelerate staking exits, but new validators will still need to wait for the activation cap before they can start earning rewards. As of October 15, the validator queue shows 1,282,776 ETH awaiting entry into staking, with an estimated waiting time of 22 days and 6 hours. The proposal will remove the fixed cap on the exit mechanism, linking its capacity to the amount of active staked ETH, and provide independent capacity for validator consolidation, but the daily activation cap of 256 ETH per epoch (57,600 ETH per day) will remain. This EIP is currently in the "Last Call" stage, with a deadline of November 1, and is planned for inclusion in the Ethereum mainnet in Q4.
