Ukraine's military Starshield satellite connection has been restored, according to a Ukrainian Ministry of Defence source, days after the United States reportedly restricted the service. Ukraine is still seeking clarification from SpaceX regarding the disruption between Tuesday and Wednesday.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk denied the company's involvement, stating on X that Starshield systems are owned and controlled by the US government, and any limits on speed or usage are decided by the US military and ultimately the President. Musk also clarified that Starlink is for civilian or defensive activities and cannot be used for offensive military action.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he does not believe the Starshield incident was a technical problem, but rather a matter of "will." He also revealed that US military officials had previously warned Kyiv that Washington would block intelligence unless attacks on Russian energy infrastructure ceased. Ukrainian officials had reported losing access to important satellite communications on Tuesday, affecting military missions and early warning capabilities against Russian ballistic missile strikes.
