Meta releases 816 billion-parameter open-weight model Muse Spark Open, partners with Apple.
On Thursday ET, Meta released Muse Spark Open, which it claims is "the most capable open-weight model in the US to date." The model boasts 816 billion parameters, supports a 1 million token context window, and specializes in programming and agent tasks. Meta also announced a collaboration with Apple, enabling the model to run on two Mac Studio devices equipped with M5 Ultra chips. Alexandr Wang, head of Meta AI, stated that the company will keep the more powerful Muse Wonder series closed-source, seeking a balance between an open developer ecosystem and AI commercialization. He believes open models are crucial for the US to maintain its advantage in AI competition.
