A new Chainalysis report reveals that the U.S. became a net importer of Bitcoin in 2026 for the first time since 2022, indicating a strong accumulation trend. Simultaneously, the U.S. is exporting dollar-pegged stablecoins worldwide, which are increasingly adopted as a currency of choice for peer-to-peer and cross-border economies. The report highlights that institutions are primarily buying Bitcoin, while retail investors largely sell. Since the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, America's share of global Bitcoin activity has consistently risen, even as the overall U.S. crypto economy, valued at $2.78 trillion, contracted by 2.2% in a bear market. The report also notes that stablecoins have generated billions in economic activity, benefiting U.S. companies and the government, with the 2025 GENIUS Act (signed by President Trump) allowing banks to issue stablecoins backed by U.S. Treasuries.
