Toyota Motor Corp. plans to use its proprietary gigacasting technology to manufacture electric vehicles at its $2 billion Lexus plant in China, a move aimed at reversing declining sales in the world's largest auto market. The Shanghai plant, currently under construction, is expected to begin vehicle production in 2027. Chief Technology Officer Hiroki Nakajima stated that Toyota is developing the technology "in-house" rather than sourcing it from local suppliers.
