Shares in some U.K. banks, including Lloyds Banking Group and NatWest, fell on Friday following reports that the government is considering raising the surcharge on bank profits. Finance Minister John Healey is expected to increase the sector-specific surcharge to 8% from 3% in his first budget as Chancellor, scheduled for Oct. 28. KBW analysts estimate the hike could raise £2 billion ($2.67 billion) annually for the Treasury but also cut lenders' earnings by 6%.
