Italian prosecutors have included Israeli Defense Minister Katz, Chief of Staff of the Army Zamir, and 11 other Israeli officials in the investigation into the Gaza flotilla incident.
The Rome Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the investigation concerns alleged torture, kidnapping, personal injury, robbery, and destruction committed by Israeli forces when intercepting flotillas heading to Gaza in 2025 and 2026. The investigation has been expanded to include 13 senior Israeli military, police, and prison officials, including Katz and Zamir, broadening a previous inquiry primarily focused on Israeli National Security Minister Ben-Gvir. Prosecutors stated they have held talks with Eurojust, the EU's judicial cooperation agency, as other European countries are also conducting similar investigations into the two flotilla missions.
