NBA Tightens Betting Rules, Deploys AI to Identify Suspicious Wagers
The NBA is tightening betting restrictions for its authorized gambling partners and deploying artificial intelligence (AI) to help identify suspicious wagers, according to two documents obtained by CNBC. These measures will be implemented before the 2026-2027 season. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver stated that the league is focused on the integrity of betting data and wants to control market types. The new rules will restrict bets on the first player to score, players expected to play less than 12 minutes, and parlay bets on a single player to underperform, as these types of wagers are prone to integrity issues. Additionally, the NBA has developed an internal AI monitoring platform to analyze basketball data, injury reports, social media information, and individual betting data to identify and investigate suspicious activity.
