JPMorgan Chase announced on Monday that its U.S. Security & Resiliency Initiative has deployed $5 billion in its first year to invest in startups in defense technology, hardware, and supply chain sectors, a pace faster than anticipated. The bank stated last year it planned to invest $10 billion in startups over a decade and has already invested in companies such as Hadrian (an automated defense parts factory) and Castelion (a hypersonic missile manufacturer). Doug Petno, Co-President of JPMorgan Chase, said the bank might expand the investment size. This move aims to address geopolitical challenges stemming from the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as trade disputes with China, conflicts that threaten the supply of energy and critical components needed for U.S. industry and defense.
