Finland is seeking to acquire one million anti-personnel landmines, with plans to spend 100 million euros (approximately $112 million) on the effort. This move comes after Finland and regional allies such as Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland withdrew from the UN convention banning the use of such munitions. Finland exited the Ottawa Treaty last year in response to potential threats from Russia. Colonel Riku Mikkonen of the Finnish Army Command stated that officials are gathering information from suppliers, hoping for domestic manufacturers to supply the mines, with a goal to sign contracts by the end of 2027 and begin production in 2028.
