Edward S. Robinson, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Economist at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), stated at the Beijing Financial Street Forum that the AI boom is a race to balance current demand with future supply effects, with unprecedented AI investment and expansion, but limited productivity gains so far. He pointed out that the AI investment and production boom is a major force supporting global demand, especially important for Asian economies, with AI-driven electronics accounting for over 70% of Asia's export growth this year. Robinson cited OECD estimates that AI could boost total factor productivity growth by up to 0.6 percentage points, potentially offsetting the negative impact of structural headwinds such as Asia's aging population.
