Researcher: Gulf States and Iran's Relationship "Fraught with Suspicion" Since 1979
Dr. Sultan Al-Khulaifi, a senior researcher at the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies, stated that relations between Gulf countries and Iran have been "fraught with suspicion" since the 1979 Iranian Revolution. He noted that Gulf countries particularly oppose the idea that "certain ideals should spread to the Arab world," leading to a low starting point for relations, and historical reconciliation attempts have repeatedly failed due to regional developments. Al-Khulaifi added that Iran currently operates based on different centers of power, such as religious leaders and the IRGC, and communication among the leadership is becoming difficult, especially after the current war, with the emergence of new power centers.
