Google releases open-source TorchTPU, joining Amazon in offering tools to move PyTorch AI apps off Nvidia GPUs and onto their respective cloud platforms
Google has made its TorchTPU, a version of PyTorch, available as an open-source project, allowing AI apps to run on its Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and Google Cloud. This move follows Amazon's release of TorchNeuron, which enables PyTorch AI apps to be ported to Amazon's Trainium chips and AWS. Both companies are directly challenging Nvidia's stronghold in the AI industry, where most AI apps are written by default to run on Nvidia's GPUs.
