Google CEO Pichai: Cloud business is ceding hashrate for frontier AI, securing hashrate for 2027 is "extremely difficult."
Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently made a rare admission in an interview, stating that the company's cloud business is actively ceding hashrate resources for the development of cutting-edge AI models, sacrificing short-term revenue to secure Google's position at the forefront of AI. He confirmed a severe industry-wide shortage of hashrate, with current demand being double the capacity planned two years ago, making it "extremely difficult" for customers today to secure hashrate for 2027. Pichai also stated that regarding Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI), the current phase is a transitional period of collaboration between AI agents and human researchers, still far from an "autonomous runaway scenario." He revealed that within four weeks of the flagship model Gemini 4 Argon's launch, Google's internal code sales increased by 30%, and the rollback rate decreased by approximately one-third.
