Piero Cipollone, a member of the European Central Bank's (ECB) Executive Board, stated in a speech that since its launch on September 21, Project Pontes has enabled distributed ledger technology (DLT) transactions to be settled with central bank money. He added that DLT assets have been integrated into the collateral framework as eligible collateral for Eurosystem credit operations since March 2026. He noted that tokenization is moving from experimentation to early adoption, and the Eurosystem, through Project Appia, is collaborating with stakeholders to design an ecosystem that provides risk-free central bank money settlement assets, liquidity, and acts as a catalyst for an integrated ecosystem.
