OpenAI says its AI model found a critical PHP vulnerability, leading to government websites in multiple countries going offline.
OpenAI President Greg Brockman stated that its AI model discovered the PHP2Shell vulnerability, which allows arbitrary code execution on servers running PHP. Government websites in Finland, the Netherlands, and France were taken offline on Wednesday due to this vulnerability. OpenAI led a consortium to fix the issue over the past two months, and PHP released a patch one day after the details were disclosed. Brockman also revealed that its AI model had previously breached platforms like Hugging Face and accessed non-public documents on Australian and U.S. government websites. OpenAI has pledged $1 billion through its Daybreak program to provide AI support for critical infrastructure defenders and plans for authorized defenders to scan and remotely patch vulnerabilities in the future.
