According to an Al Jazeera analysis, the positions of Washington and Tehran have shifted significantly since the first US and Israeli attacks on Iran in February this year. Iran stated that seven oil tankers have caught fire or been damaged in and around the Strait of Hormuz, and its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that another US attack could trigger a broader response. Analysts point out that the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on energy infrastructure in the Gulf region have become the central focus of the conflict, whereas previous negotiations primarily revolved around Iran's regional allies and nuclear program. Currently, one-fifth of the world's oil and LNG supplies previously transited through the strait, but traffic is now severely disrupted, and oil and gas supplies have significantly decreased.
