South Korea's nuclear watchdog, the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, on Tuesday approved an additional 10-year operational life for Kori units 3 and 4, two nuclear reactors located on the country's southeastern coast. The approval came four years after the state-run power operator, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., requested a review for the restart of the two pressurized water reactors, each with a 1,025 megawatts gross capacity, which had ceased power generation after 40 years of operation.
