General Motors (GM) will transfer the listing of its common stock from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) to Nasdaq, effective November 17, retaining its "GM" ticker symbol. GM stated that the move aims to position itself as a more technology-focused company and potentially qualify for inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 Index. Paul Jacobson, the company's CFO, called Nasdaq a "natural home" for its customer-centric, technology-driven strategy. Existing shareholders are not required to take any action. This move represents a significant loss for the NYSE, as GM has been listed on the exchange since 1911 and relisted there after its government-backed bankruptcy in 2010. In recent years, several companies, including Walmart, DoorDash, and Palantir Technologies, have also switched their listings from the NYSE to Nasdaq.
