The Iranian Navy announced that an oil tanker struck a mine in the eastern Strait of Hormuz, causing hull damage and a fire, rendering the vessel inoperable. Iran's state broadcaster IRIB cited a navy statement saying the tanker hit a mine while sailing in a "prohibited and unsafe zone" in the eastern Strait of Hormuz. The navy also warned that the Strait of Hormuz is closed to "uncoordinated vessels that dare to cross the prohibited and unsafe zone." Previously, the Iranian Navy had stated that three other oil tankers that had "turned off their radar and navigation systems and attempted to leave unauthorized southern routes" had also struck mines.
