Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday that its first ambassador to Somaliland presented credentials in Hargeisa last week, where a groundbreaking ceremony for the Israeli embassy was also held, Al Jazeera reported. The President of Somaliland accepted the credentials. The report stated that this move fulfills the commitment made by both sides when they established relations in December 2025. Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991, but Somalia still claims sovereignty over it and condemned Israel's decision to recognize it.
