According to News1, South Korea's Financial Services Commission is considering raising the cold wallet storage requirement for crypto exchanges to approximately 99%.
The move follows a recent hack at Binance and aims to increase the minimum cold wallet storage requirement from the current 80%. Currently, Upbit reportedly holds over 99% of customer assets in cold wallets, Bithumb around 94%, and Coinone 85%. Industry participants warn that stricter requirements could delay withdrawals and increase operational burdens, especially for smaller exchanges. The proposal is still under discussion and has not yet been passed.
