France's Crédit Mutuel Arkéa Discloses Details of $133 Million Cyberattack: Attackers Infiltrated via Third-Party Platform and Siphoned Funds

French banking group Crédit Mutuel Arkéa disclosed further details on November 4 regarding a cyberattack involving approximately $133 million. The attackers breached the bank's system through a third-party service provider's platform, using the bank's own accounts to transfer funds to other financial institutions, which were then allegedly converted into cryptocurrencies via specialized platforms. The bank stated it could not confirm the exact stolen amount of €118 million ($133 million), but acknowledged that the figure is in the correct magnitude. Part of the implicated funds has currently been frozen, and recovery efforts are underway. The bank denied that the attackers gained access through its online banking subsidiary Fortuneo, emphasized that customer assets remain unaffected, and confirmed that the external attack has been contained.
