Paraguay banking crisis triggers currency depreciation, Bitcoin and USDT trade at a premium in P2P markets
Paraguay is facing a banking crisis that has triggered currency devaluation, pushing Bitcoin and USDT to a premium in the P2P market. As a liquidity crisis at digital bank Ueno Bank sparked a bank run and caused a sharp depreciation of the local Guaraní against the US dollar, local P2P demand for Bitcoin and USDT surged, resulting in trading premiums. Data from CriptoNoticias shows that on November 6, the over-the-counter (OTC) purchase price of Bitcoin in Paraguay was equivalent to approximately $76,982.53, representing a premium of about 1.7% over international prices, while the purchase price of USDT also traded at roughly a 4% premium over the central bank's reference exchange rate.
