BitClave successfully raised over $25 million through an ICO in 2017 with the aim of building a decentralized search engine that would protect user privacy and enable revenue sharing from advertising. However, the project was sued by the SEC in 2020 for an unregistered securities offering; it eventually reached a settlement and agreed to refund the funds, after which it ceased operations. As of 2024, the SEC has initiated the investor reimbursement process, but the actual amount paid out still falls short of the promised amount. Currently, market activity for the CAT token is extremely low.
