TerraClassicUSD (USTC), formerly TerraUSD (UST), was an algorithmic stablecoin designed to be pegged to the US dollar. However, its value significantly de-pegged after a mechanism collapse in May 2022. Currently, USTC has transformed into a highly speculative digital asset, with its price entirely driven by market supply and demand. Despite losing its stablecoin status, it is still used on the Terra Classic blockchain for paying transaction fees and as a decentralized trading pair. The Terra Classic community is actively promoting USTC's recovery, but its global acceptance as a means of payment has become minimal, with its primary use concentrated in speculative trading on cryptocurrency exchanges.
