Solana employs a unique hybrid consensus mechanism, combining Proof of Stake (PoS) for economic security and Proof of History (PoH) as a decentralized clock, supplemented by the Tower BFT consensus algorithm. PoH ensures transaction order through a Verifiable Delay Function, significantly enhancing parallel processing capabilities. Solana has recently reduced block production time to approximately 200 milliseconds and plans to further drastically shorten transaction finality to about 150 milliseconds with the upcoming Alpenglow upgrade, aiming to improve network efficiency and resilience.
