Svmuu News: The Financial Services Commission (FSC) of South Korea announced that it will bring forward the implementation of enhanced initial margin requirements for single-stock leveraged ETFs and ETNs to the end of July. Effective July 31, retail investors wishing to purchase or add to their holdings of single-stock leveraged ETFs or ETNs must hold at least 30 million won in cash in their accounts as initial margin. This measure applies to single-stock leveraged ETFs and ETNs listed both in South Korea and overseas. Financial authorities stated that they decided to accelerate the implementation of these investor protection measures due to the rapid growth in market capitalization and trading volume of these products since their launch on May 27, as well as increased volatility in the stock prices of major memory chip companies.
Data shows that the total market capitalization of the 16 single-stock leveraged products currently on the market has grown from 4.4 trillion won on May 27 to 11.9 trillion won on July 15, while trading volume has risen from 10.4 trillion won to 13 trillion won. Under the previous regulations, retail investors purchasing single-stock leveraged products were required to meet a minimum margin requirement of 10 million won, with assets such as stocks, ETFs, and bonds eligible for margin calculation. Following the implementation of the new regulations, the initial margin requirement has been raised to 30 million won, and only cash assets are recognized; the conversion of securities into margin is no longer permitted.
Furthermore, proceeds from the sale of securities can only be counted toward the initial margin after settlement is completed and the funds are actually credited to the account on T+2; loan amounts obtained using proceeds from sales as collateral are also excluded from the margin calculation. The Financial Services Commission stated that this measure aims to curb high-frequency circular trading, in which investors sell and immediately repurchase leveraged products on the same day.
For existing investors making additional purchases, the 30 million KRW cash margin requirement also applies; however, sell transactions are not subject to margin restrictions.
South Korean financial authorities had previously suspended new listings of single-stock leveraged ETFs/ETNs effective July 16 and restricted related advertising. Future plans include strengthening the management mechanism for product premium rates, shortening the process for designating securities subject to investment warnings, and advancing adjustments to trading units.
The Financial Services Commission stated that it will continue to monitor market trends for these products and, if market overheating persists, will consider taking further supplementary measures. (Chosun)

Svmuu News: Cryptocurrency derivatives platform BitMEX is facing a proposed class-action lawsuit; BKX Services Inc. and David Namdar have filed a complaint with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The plaintiffs allege that they collectively lost 622.66 BTC in forced liquidations on BitMEX; specifically, BKX claims to have lost at least 305.81 BTC, while Namdar claims to have lost more than 316.85 BTC.
The complaint alleges that BitMEX’s internal trading desk has access to customers’ private information and can continue trading even when servers are frozen, ordinary users are unable to access the platform, or positions are being liquidated. The plaintiffs further allege that BitMEX allows clients to use leverage of up to 100x and automatically liquidates positions when the value of collateral is still twice the amount of the loss, with the remaining BTC transferred to the platform’s insurance fund.
The plaintiff seeks the return of the allegedly withheld Bitcoin and is seeking compensatory and punitive damages on behalf of U.S. customers who purchased BTC swap products beginning on July 23, 2018.On the same day the lawsuit was filed, BitMEX announced that, following a strategic review by its owner, HDR Global Trading, it would cease operations on September 23. The platform had already stopped accepting new registrations and planned to prohibit users from opening new positions starting August 26.

According to PPP prediction market monitoring, in the prediction event on Polymarket titled “When will the U.S. and Iran reach a two-week ceasefire?”, the probability for August 14 is currently reported at 34%, down 1% from the previous week; the probability for August 31 is currently reported at 51%, down 3% from the previous week.
According to settlement rules, if—at any point between the market’s creation and the specified deadline (11:59 p.m. EDT)—there is a continuous 14-day period during which the U.S. does not carry out qualifying military actions against Iran, the market will settle as “Yes.”A qualifying military action refers to an airstrike or ground-to-ground missile attack initiated by the United States that directly targets locations within Iran.
It is reported that the U.S. military has struck Iranian military targets for the 13th consecutive night, and Iran has rejected the ceasefire proposal put forward by Donald Trump. Neither side has signaled a willingness to de-escalate in the short term. However, according to sources familiar with the matter, Donald Trump is growing increasingly frustrated with the protracted conflict, while his advisors are concerned that the war has driven up prices, dragged down his approval ratings, and resulted in the deaths of more than a dozen U.S. soldiers—all of which continue to erode the Donald Trump administration’s political capital and may further impact the Republican Party’s prospects in the midterm elections.

South Korea’s KOSPI index fell as much as 6.1% on Friday, with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix both dropping more than 7%; the Korea Exchange temporarily suspended algorithmic trading. In recent weeks, this safety measure has been triggered with increasing frequency in South Korea’s stock market, which has a market capitalization of $4.1 trillion. After four consecutive days of net buying, global investors resumed selling Korean stocks, primarily offloading technology shares. Shawn Oh, head of Korean cash equities at NH Investment & Securities, said, “As tensions in the Middle East persist, local funds are reducing their holdings of technology stocks and cutting risk ahead of the weekend, and downside risks appear to be magnified.”
Roy Lim, an equity sales trader at Samsung Securities, said that some Asian hedge funds are selling shares of Samsung and SK Hynix to increase their holdings of China’s Changxin Technology, which is set to go public on July 27. (Jin Shi)

Svmuu News: Driven by profit growth fueled by the AI boom and influenced by U.S. tariff policies, South Korean companies are experiencing their largest wave of investment and mergers and acquisitions in the U.S. in recent years. According to data from the South Korean Ministry of Economy and Finance, South Korean companies’ actual foreign direct investment (FDI) in the U.S. more than doubled year-over-year in the first quarter of this year to $10.2 billion, reaching a five-year high. Companies benefiting from AI infrastructure, such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, are accelerating their expansion into the U.S. AI supply chain. Samsung has already participated in funding rounds for ZutaCore, a liquid-cooling provider for AI data centers, and Groq, an AI chip company, while SK Hynix plans to invest $10 billion in U.S. innovation firms. Investment banking analysts believe that, against the backdrop of Chinese buyers withdrawing from the U.S. market for mergers and acquisitions of major tech assets, South Korean companies are entering a “golden age” for M&A in the United States. Svmuu News: Citrini analyst Jukan posted on X that a Morgan Stanley research report circulating in the market indicates analyst Shawn Kim has turned bearish on the memory chip industry. The report notes that inventory levels at NAND module manufacturers have risen to approximately 13 weeks, demand has cooled significantly, and NAND price growth is expected to slow to about 5% in the fourth quarter, with spot prices having fallen for two consecutive months. Meanwhile, CXMT (CXMT) is rapidly expanding its production capacity, and supply and demand are gradually moving toward equilibrium. The report also notes that if the NAND market weakens, the DRAM market should also be viewed bearishly, and it forecasts that HBM market growth will be capped at around 40%.
Jukan stated that it has verified the report’s accuracy with sources and noted that Shawn Kim has consistently held similar views recently, which may be one of the reasons behind the sustained pullback in South Korea’s KOSPI index in recent weeks.
