Israel has extradited Israeli-Russian citizen Alexander Block to the United States to face charges over the alleged theft of about $2.8 million from crypto bridge Nomad. Block was arrested in May 2025 and indicted in August 2023 on multiple counts, including computer fraud and money laundering. Israel's Supreme Court rejected his appeal, ruling that exploiting a programming flaw can constitute unlawful computer intrusion, even if the software technically permitted the action. Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, has reported a theft of approximately $6.3 billion, making it the largest crypto heist on record. The company suspended deposits and withdrawals on Thursday (October 29) and stated it would cover all losses, assuring users that funds were “safe.”

US blockchain analysis firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis attributed the attack to TraderTraitor, a North Korean hacking unit linked to the Lazarus Group. Binance co-CEO Richard Teng, however, said the company's own investigation had not attributed responsibility to any individual. Binance said approximately $3 billion of the stolen funds had been frozen in total, including more than $2.3 billion by stablecoin issuers Tether and Circle. Binance warned that the $6.3 billion figure “may continue to increase” as it traces and freezes more assets.

Following the incident, Bitcoin fell to a six-week low of $76,368, while Ether dropped more than 3% to a two-month low of $2,178. Shares in crypto exchange Coinbase, which reported being unaffected, fell 4.8%.

Federal Reserve insider Nick Timiraos cited Employment Cost Index data, stating that U.S. wage growth has slowed slightly over the past year. Private sector compensation (excluding incentive-based occupations) increased by 3.1% year-over-year in the third quarter, down from 3.4% in the same period last year, marking the lowest level since Q1 2021. The aftershocks of this wage growth primarily affected the non-union private sector and will take longer to spread to government and unionized workforces.

Binance says it holds $5B in matching tokens to cover hack losses, to be included in next proof-of-reserves report. The exchange previously stated it had set aside over $6.34 billion to cover losses from the recent hack.

Blockchain analytics firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis have both attributed this week's $6.4 billion hack on Binance to the North Korean hacking group TraderTraitor, which was previously linked to the Bybit hack in February 2025. Binance stated it has allocated over $6.34 billion of its own funds to cover user losses, with $5 billion already used for stolen tokens, and the remainder being purchased through market and OTC channels. Tether, Circle, Ripple, and World Liberty Financial have frozen approximately $2.67 billion in stablecoins, and the Arbitrum Security Council has also frozen 8,426 ETH and 74.6 million ARB, with Binance pegging the total frozen amount at around $3 billion.

Meanwhile, Trade.xyz announced an investment from Intercontinental Exchange (ICE, parent company of the New York Stock Exchange) and plans to launch 24/7 regulated perpetual futures products in the US, based on Hyperliquid, covering equities, indices, commodities, currencies, and cryptocurrencies, pending CFTC approval. Stanley Druckenmiller has also joined as a Trade.xyz investor; his family office earlier this year disclosed holding a $23 million position in Hyperliquid Strategies. The Hyperliquid token (HYPE) surged over 20% at one point before retreating due to the Binance incident.

Binance suffered a hack of approximately $6.4 billion, making it the largest cryptocurrency theft in history, with funds flowing out via the Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Tron networks. Tether and Circle have frozen about $2.39 billion in stablecoins, and Binance has pledged to set aside over $6.34 billion in company funds to cover the losses. Binance stated that initial investigations pointed to a DevOps engineer's laptop being compromised, with other intrusion points subsequently discovered. As a result, the prices of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and BNB fell, and over $1.33 billion in positions were liquidated.

Iran's navy stated that two oil tankers were damaged and caught fire after hitting mines in the eastern Strait of Hormuz. A statement cited by Iranian media claimed that the vessels were operating in a "restricted and dangerous area" with their tracking systems disabled, "disregarding warnings and established regulations." Previously, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy had reported that two oil tankers had "an accident" and stopped in the southern waters of the strait after ignoring radio warnings.

Qatari mediators arrived in Tehran on Friday morning, aiming to restore the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, Al Jazeera reported. This diplomatic effort comes amidst conflicting signals from Washington, with a letter from US Vice President Vance to the head of Iran's security services reportedly receiving a positive response, even as President Donald Trump warned allies to prepare for potential military action after the midterm elections.
