The Birth of SHIB (Shiba Inu Coin): August 2020
SHIB, or Shiba Inu Coin, is a decentralized cryptocurrency created and launched in August 2020 by an anonymous individual or entity, known by the pseudonym "Ryoshi." The token is based on the ERC-20 standard of the Ethereum blockchain, inspired by the popular Dogecoin, and is often referred to by the community as the "Dogecoin killer."

Initial Issuance and Distribution Mechanism
SHIB's initial supply was set at 1 quadrillion tokens. Its unique initial distribution strategy was as follows:
- Liquidity Lock: 50% of the SHIB supply was locked in the liquidity pool of the decentralized exchange Uniswap, and the associated private keys were burned, aiming to ensure its decentralization and liquidity.
- Gift to Vitalik Buterin: The other 50% of the initial supply was sent to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. Buterin later burned approximately 90% of these tokens and donated the remaining 10% to the India COVID-19 relief fund, a move that garnered significant attention at the time.

Early Market Performance and Development History
After its launch in August 2020, SHIB initially did not attract much market attention. However, with the cryptocurrency bull run in 2021 and mentions of Dogecoin by public figures like Elon Musk, SHIB's price began to rise significantly in May 2021, attracting a large number of retail investors. For example, on May 13, 2021, the SHIB donated by Vitalik Buterin to the India COVID-19 relief fund was worth over $1 billion at the time, further boosting the project's visibility.
In October 2021, SHIB's market price grew by approximately 240% in a single week, reaching a market capitalization of about $35 billion on October 31, 2021, briefly entering the top ten cryptocurrencies by market cap. As of January 2022, its market cap still exceeded $16.9 billion, ranking as the fourteenth largest cryptocurrency at the time. These historical data reflect SHIB's market popularity during specific periods.

From Memecoin to Ecosystem
SHIB was initially widely classified as a "memecoin," with its value primarily driven by community sentiment and social media buzz. However, over time, the SHIB project has strived to move beyond its initial memecoin positioning, gradually evolving into a project with a more complete ecosystem. This ecosystem includes:

- ShibaSwap: A decentralized exchange that allows users to trade, stake, and provide liquidity.
- Multi-token System: In addition to SHIB, the ecosystem also introduced other tokens like LEASH and BONE, each with different functions and uses.
- Metaverse (Shiberse): The project team is also actively exploring the metaverse, aiming to build a virtual world.
The Shiba Inu project emphasizes its nature as an "experiment in decentralized spontaneous community building," with the community (often referred to as the "Shib Army") being the core force behind its development and maintenance. After the anonymous founder Ryoshi gradually stepped back, Shytoshi Kusama is considered the de facto leader of the Shiba Inu project and has spearheaded key development work such as ShibaSwap.
Market Positioning and Risk Warning

Although SHIB has developed a more complex ecosystem, its nature as a memecoin makes its price highly volatile and significantly speculative. Market analysts generally remind investors that the memecoin market carries high risks and advise thoroughly understanding its characteristics and carefully assessing personal risk tolerance before participating. SHIB's enormous supply results in an extremely low price per token, which to some extent caters to the "low-price entry" mentality of some investors.
