Aragon Project Overview and Development History
Aragon is an open-source platform built on the Ethereum blockchain, with a core mission to empower the creation, management, and maintenance of Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs). The project aims to provide modular governance solutions, helping various projects build transparent, secure, and efficient on-chain organizational structures.

- Origin and Founding: Aragon was co-founded by Luis Cuende and Jorge Izquierdo in 2016, making it one of the early explorers in the field of DAO governance.
- Initial Coin Offering (ICO): In May 2017, Aragon successfully completed its ICO, raising 275,000 ETH, valued at approximately $25 million at the time, within minutes.
- Platform Launch: The Aragon platform officially launched on the Ethereum mainnet in 2018, gradually rolling out core components such as Aragon Client (developer toolkit), Aragon Network (supporting DAO interactions), and the Aragon Association (a non-profit organization managing project funds).
- Technological Evolution: Aragon OSx is its modular smart contract framework, while Aragon App provides a no-code user interface for launching and managing DAOs, significantly lowering the barrier to DAO creation.
- Ecosystem Impact: The Aragon platform has supported over 10,000 projects and managed over $35 billion in assets, with notable projects like Lido, Decentraland, Curve DAO, and Aave having been its users.
Role of ANT Token and Redemption Event

ANT (Aragon Network Token) was once the core token in the Aragon ecosystem, with holders participating in Aragon Network governance through ANT. However, the token's role has recently undergone significant changes.
- Governance Dispute: In June 2022, a dispute erupted between the Aragon Association (AA) and activist investors over the governance of $160 million in treasury funds. Investors voted to transfer the funds to a voting-based DAO, but this transfer failed to materialize over the subsequent 16 months.
- Association Dissolution and Redemption Plan: To resolve the dispute and facilitate project transformation, the Aragon Association announced its dissolution in November 2023 and initiated an ANT token redemption program. This program allowed ANT holders to redeem their ANT tokens at a fixed rate of 0.0025376 ETH/ANT.
- Redemption Details: The AA deployed 86,343 ETH for this purpose, accounting for approximately 87% of its treasury. The redemption period concluded on November 2, 2024, with approximately 87% of ANT tokens ultimately redeemed. The U.S. government also liquidated ANT tokens seized from Alameda Research and redeemed them for ETH, valued at approximately $1.07 million.
- Token Status: Since the redemption program ended, the ANT token no longer serves any purpose within the Aragon project.
Future Outlook for the Aragon Project

Although the Aragon Association has been dissolved and ANT tokens redeemed, the Aragon project has not ceased development. The remaining 11,249.01 ETH has been transferred to the newly established Aragon Foundation.
- New Foundation: The Aragon Foundation, led by a committee of experienced Ethereum developers, will continue the Aragon project's mission, focusing on building and advancing on-chain governance technology.
- Continued Innovation: The new foundation will utilize the remaining funds to continue research and development in the DAO governance space, striving to provide more advanced and secure tools and infrastructure for decentralized organizations.

ANT Token Market Status and Risk Warning
Given that the ANT token has lost its utility within the Aragon project, its market activity has significantly declined.

As of September 24, 2026, the 24-hour trading volume for ANT tokens ranged from approximately $58.75 to $62.96. The token's trading market has nearly dried up, lacking effective transactions. Investors considering any ANT-related transactions must fully recognize the high risks associated with its extremely low liquidity and the loss of project utility.
