LBA and Cred Project Overview

LBA is a token associated with the cryptocurrency lending platform Cred (originally named Libra Credit). Cred aimed to build a decentralized lending ecosystem, and the LBA token was designed for blockchain lending services within this ecosystem. However, the project has completely stalled due to severe legal and financial issues.

Key Events and Latest Developments

The trajectory of the Cred project has been marked by a series of negative events that have fundamentally altered its prospects.

  • Bankruptcy and Liquidity Crisis (November 2020): Cred filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November 2020. Filing documents showed the company had approximately $136 million in liabilities against only $68 million in assets at the time. Its difficulties stemmed from various factors, including the impact of volatile Bitcoin prices on its balance sheet, as well as issues involving loans to third-party companies and fraudulent investments.
  • Executive Fraud Charges and Convictions (2024-2025): In May 2024, Cred's former CEO Daniel Schatt, CFO Joseph Podulka, and Chief Commercial Officer James Alexander were charged by the U.S. Department of Justice with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, allegedly resulting in over $780 million in customer crypto asset losses. In May 2025, Schatt and Podulka pleaded guilty to the charges. In August of the same year, both were sentenced to multiple years in prison and fined. According to information at the time, Cred's customers and investors filed thousands of claims totaling a significant amount.
