Li Bin, Deputy Director-General of the National Foreign Exchange Administration and Press Spokesman, responded to journalists on issues related to China ' s external debt data at the end of September 2025. Li Bin stated that in the third quarter of 2025, our external debt situation was generally stable. The first is a steady decline in external debt. As at the end of September 2025, the country ' s total-calibre external debt (in foreign currency) balance stood at $23,68.4 billion, a 2.8 per cent decrease from the end of June 2025. Secondly, the external debt structure is generally stable. In terms of currency structure, the foreign debt in local currency was 51.9 per cent, down 0.2 percentage points from the end of June 2025; in terms of the term structure, the medium- and long-term external debt was 42.5 per cent, up 0.1 percentage points from the end of June 2025. In general, our external debt has fallen steadily, the currency structure has been generally stable and the maturity structure has been optimized.
