Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics: Population Declines by 250,000 Over the Past Two Years; Economy Suffers Severe Contraction
On December 31 local time, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics released its annual comprehensive report on the demographic, social, and economic conditions of the Palestinian population as of the end of 2025. The report noted that significant casualties and large-scale displacement have led to drastic changes in the Palestinian demographic structure. Statistics show that as of the end of 2025, the total Palestinian population was approximately 5.56 million, with 3.43 million residing in the West Bank. Meanwhile, the population of the Gaza Strip experienced an unprecedented decline, decreasing by approximately 250,000 people over two years—a drop of 10.6%—and currently stands at about 2.13 million. Economically, the Palestinian economy continued to deteriorate in 2025. The Gaza Strip’s GDP fell by 84% compared to 2023 and declined a further 8.7% in 2025, with the economy virtually at a standstill. (CCTV News)
