On January 1, 2026, local time, a new round of entry restrictions previously announced by the U.S. government Donald Trump officially took effect. These restrictions apply to both immigrants and non-immigrants and fall into two categories: “comprehensive restrictions” and “partial restrictions.”The United States has imposed comprehensive entry restrictions on five countries—Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, and Syria—as well as on individuals holding travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority;Comprehensive entry restrictions are now in place for the two countries previously subject to partial restrictions—Laos and Sierra Leone; partial entry restrictions apply to individuals from the following 15 countries: Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Dominica, Gabon,Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Tonga, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
