January 2: Interregional travel across the country exceeded 180 million trips
On January 2, the total number of interregional passenger trips across all transportation modes reached 184.719 million, a decrease of 11% from the previous day and an increase of 12.1% year-on-year. Specifically, rail passenger volume was 12.213 million trips, a decrease of 34.2% from the previous day and an increase of 15% year-on-year. Road passenger traffic (including non-commercial passenger trips on expressways and ordinary national and provincial highways, as well as commercial road passenger transport) totaled 169.8 million trips, down 8.8% month-on-month but up 11.9% year-on-year. Of this total, commercial road passenger traffic was 29.41 million trips, down 13.9% month-on-month but up 11.2% year-on-year; non-commercial passenger traffic on expressways and ordinary national and provincial highways was 140.39 million trips, down 7.7% month-on-month but up 12% year-on-year. Waterway passenger traffic reached 856,000 trips, up 25.2% month-on-month and 53% year-on-year.
