Delphi Digital stated in a post that, Solana plans to roll out a major consensus mechanism upgrade called “Alpenglow” in phases from early to mid-2026. This upgrade will replace the existing Tower BFT and Proof of History (PoH) mechanisms, achieving finality times of 100–150 milliseconds—an approximately 100-fold improvement over the original 12.8 seconds. The new architecture introduces two key components: Votor, which uses a lightweight voting aggregation model to allow blocks to finalize within one to two rounds of confirmation; and Rotor, which reengineers the block propagation mechanism by adopting stake-weighted relay paths, enabling propagation delays as low as 18 milliseconds when bandwidth is sufficient.
