Following the drop in oil prices after the U.S. launched a military operation to capture Venezuelan President Maduro last weekend, the Canadian dollar and the Norwegian krone also fell.Markets are concerned that Venezuela’s vast crude oil reserves could eventually lead to increased production, thereby putting downward pressure on oil prices. Analysts at Goldman Sachs noted in a report: “Combined with recent higher-than-expected production from Russia and the U.S., the potential for long-term production growth in Venezuela further exacerbates the downside risks to our oil price forecasts for 2027 and beyond.”
